Kadarius Toney eviscerated by social media as costly penalty dooms brilliant trick play
Toney #Toney
Kadarius Toney nearly came up with the play of the game for the Kansas City Chiefs. Trailing the Buffalo Bills by 3 points late in the game, Toney caught a backwards pass from Travis Kelce.
CBS broadcaster Tony Romo felt it was a designed play with Kelce delivering the pass after a huge pickup down the field. Designed or not, the play worked with Toney rolling into the end zone for a go-ahead touchdown.
Unfortunately, that play was called back, and it was a penalty solely on Toney’s shoulders. He was flagged for offsides — a rarity for an offensive player — for lining up in the neutral zone before the snap.
Without the touchdown, the Chiefs were unable to convert late in the game and lost 20-17. Social media reacted in vigorous fashion to Toney’s miscue with jokes about Taylor Swift including a song about the WR on her next album a favorite joke of the day.
