Oxley MP Milton Dick, the federal Speaker of the House of Representatives, described his party’s outgoing leader as a “record-maker” and “best friend”.

“An amazing [Queensland] premier,” he tweeted on Sunday. “I’m proud of all her achievements. To me, she’s a best friend in every way.”

Queensland Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe thanked Palaszczuk for her contribution to “modernising” the state, for leading Queensland through the COVID-19 pandemic, and for her “friendship and kindness” over the years.

Police Minister Mark Ryan added: “You have made [Queensland] a better place.

“Because of you, our best days are certainly well and truly ahead of us.”

The next Queensland premier was due to be decided by caucus next week, however Palaszczuk said she would give a “strong endorsement” to her deputy, Steven Miles.
