AUBURN HILLS, MI – A 24-year-old Michigan man is charged with open murder after allegedly shooting a man and then calling 911 to report it, police said.

Anthony Russell Holcomb, 47, of Auburn Hills, was fatally shot on Saturday at a hotel on Doris Road in Auburn Hills, according to a news release from the Auburn Hills Police Department. Malcolm Otis Draper, 24, of Pontiac, called 911 that evening to report he’d shot someone at the hotel’s address, and officers responded to the scene.

Draper was arraigned in 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills on Wednesday on a charge of open murder related to Holcomb’s death, police said. The charge allows for a jury to determine the degree of murder. Bond was denied. He’s due back in court on Thursday, Dec. 21.

Around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Auburn Hills Police officers were dispatched to the Suburban Studio Hotel for a possible shooting after Oakland County Central Dispatched received a 911 call from a man who stated he had shot someone, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound, police said. Lifesaving measures were initiated. The Auburn Hills Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital. He later died of his injuries.
