Spurs took the lead in Thursday’s London derby only to suffer a 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham United – their third home defeat on the bounce.

It also marked the first time a Premier League side has taken the lead in five straight matches and not gone onto win the game.

Spurs enjoyed a superb start to the season, briefly moving top of the league in late October before a string of disappointing results.

Since a 4-1 defeat at home to Chelsea – a game where they had both Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie sent off while losing James Maddison and Micky van de Ven to injury – they have picked up just one point.

A late defeat away to Wolves was followed by a home defeat to Aston Villa. Tottenham rescued a late point in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad last weekend before last night’s setback against West Ham.

Former Arsenal star Ozil has been enjoying the run of form, taunting Spurs on Twitter. Sharing a post highlighting Tottenham’s recent woes, he wrote: ‘Who else should be able to break that record? Bottle Job FC is back’.

Having been top of the pile in October, Tottenham have slipped down to fifth place although are only three behind defending champions Manchester City who are fourth.

Spurs are level on points with Manchester United with Newcastle United just a point further back.

The Magpies head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon where they will be hoping to leapfrog the north Londoners in the table.

Son Heung-Min is a doubt for that game after he was forced off late against West Ham on Thursday with Ange Postecoglou confirming that the club will have to make a last-minute call on his availability.

‘The last update I got was late last night but he was a bit sore after the game obviously,’ he said speaking at the pre-match press conference.

‘[As to] the extent of it, we will kind of need to see how he recovers today. There was a couple of others with some knocks but I don’t think anything else significant.’
