Alicia Keys, renowned singer-songwriter and multi-Grammy Award winner, is set to make a dazzling transition to Broadway as her semi-autobiographical musical, “Hell’s Kitchen,” moves from its Off Broadway success to the illustrious Shubert Theater, NYTimesreports.

Announcing the exhilarating news at a Public Theater fund-raiser, Keys revealed that after its sold-out 12-week run downtown at the Public Theater, “Hell’s Kitchen” will elevate its storytelling onto the coveted Broadway stage. The musical, inspired by Keys’ upbringing and marked by a poignant coming-of-age narrative, captures a pivotal chapter in the life of a 17-year-old girl navigating the vibrant yet challenging world of New York City’s artist-subsidized housing.

In a telephone interview, Keys expressed overwhelming joy and a sense of fulfillment, recognizing this moment as the culmination of a lifelong dream deeply rooted in her family’s history. Reflecting on her mother’s pursuit of an acting career in New York, Keys shared, “This city raised me, and the reason why I can even tell this story.”

“Hell’s Kitchen” narrates a tale of passion for music and self-discovery, depicting the protagonist’s journey as she grapples with her love for piano, burgeoning emotions, and the complex dynamics of her environment. Keys acknowledged her love for theater and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to debut on Broadway, a dream she had not previously envisioned as a possibility.
