Kenney announced the news during a virtual press briefing Tuesday where he noted that he is not experiencing any coronavirus symptoms and plans on getting tested soon.
“Like the last time, I mentioned this is not to focus on myself, but to remind everyone that the virus is still here, and we must remain vigilant,” Kenney said. “So if you find yourself in a similar situation – exposed to some who tests positive – do the right thing and self-quarantine.”
Adhering to the CDC’s latest guidelines, Kenney says his second stint in self-isolation will last 10 days, unless he tests negative for COVID-19 after seven days.
“We are still working very hard to flatten the curve and self-quarantining is a crucial way that anyone who has been exposed can help to accomplish,” Kenney added.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s Health Commissioner, Doctor Thomas Farley, offered a grim assessment of the growing spread of the virus.
Philadelphia is reporting 1,408 new cases for a total of well over 75,000 with more than 2,100 deaths.
Dr. Farley says 886 COVID patients are in city hospitals, a 200 person increase from just two weeks ago.
“The hospitals are clearly showing signs of strain. They have enough beds, but they are having difficulty maintaining staffing,” Dr. Farley stated.
Farley says with indoor dining and gatherings, gyms and sports shuttered, he does not see a need for tougher restrictions in the city, but thinks the surrounding counties should follow Philadelphia’s lead.
He says with FDA approval this week, the city could start the two-jab Pfizer vaccinations next week.
