Help may be around the corner for a New Orleans Saints pass rush that has been in need of some juice.
The Saints are elevating veteran pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul for their Week 12 game against the rival Atlanta Falcons, calling up a player with 94.5 career sacks to his name.
The 34-year-old had been a free agent prior to last week, when New Orleans signed him to its practice squad. He spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens, recording three sacks and five tackles for loss in 14 games.
“I feel good,” Pierre-Paul said earlier this week. “I feel like I haven’t missed a beat. I’ve been training the whole time I’ve been (out) of football, keeping busy. I’m just going to do what they ask me. I’m just here to help out, and that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
The Saints pass rush has been a disappointment to this stage of the season. Entering Sunday’s game, New Orleans has just 18 sacks this season (NFL rank: T-29th), and it is pressuring quarterbacks on just 19.4 % of dropbacks (25th).
New Orleans also elevated fullback Adam Prentice from the practice squad.
