Taylor Swift has announced a surprise new album called Folklore that she wrote and recorded while in lockdown, which will be released at midnight tonight.

The ‘Blank Space’ singer, who released her last album Lover less than a year ago, explained that her gut told her “if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world”.

“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen,” she explained.

“And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.”

Taylor went on to reveal collaborations with the likes of Bon Iver and The National’s Aaron Dessner on the 16-track album, with the physical deluxe versions including an extra song called ‘the lakes’.

“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed,” she continued.

“My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much”.

The album comes a few months after Disney+ released Taylor’s City of Lover Concert movie, which was filmed last year at the L’Olympia theatre in Paris.

The movie was released after her Lover Fest tour was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which included dates in London’s Hyde Park and a headline slot at the Glastonbury Festival.
