Report: NHL threatens Marc-Andre Fleury, Wild organization

Fleury #Fleury

The National Hockey League is apparently doing their best to imitate the NFL, which fans have often dubbed the “No Fun League”.

One of the League’s most beloved players in goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is being prohibited from wearing a special mask that was custom painted for Minnesota’s observance of Native American Heritage Night. According to Sportsnet, the NHL informed Fleury that he’d be unable to wear the specialized lid during the pre-game warmups.

And that’s not all. According to Fleury’s outspoken agent Allan Walsh, the League threatened Fleury and the Wild with a substantial fine if he went through with his plan of wearing it in the pre-game warmup regardless.

“Marc-Andre Fleury indicated he was planning to wear the mask anyway and pay the fine,” Walsh wrote on social media. “The NHL then threatened the Wild organization with an additional significant fine.”

At the start of the season, the NHL had implemented restrictions on players’ individual expressions supporting causes and organizations. This decision aimed to prevent further controversies that had garnered widespread attention the previous year, notably when players chose not to wear Pride warmup sweaters.
