Rangers star Kemar Roofe has allayed any fears of teammate Alfredo Morelos leaving the club in January, saying the Colombian is ‘100 per cent committed’ to Gers.

And he says manager Steven Gerrard would quickly sort him out if he wasn’t!

With the January transfer window fast approaching, there has been familiar talk about Morelos’ future at Ibrox.

The forward – who broke Ally McCoist’s European scoring record for Rangers earlier this season – was strongly linked with a move away in the summer, with the player himself admitting he was keen to leave.

But he ended up staying put, and his seven goals and four assists have helped Gers to both the top of the Scottish Premiership table and into the knockout stages of the Europa League.

And Roofe has told talkSPORT his teammate is definitely staying put in the New Year, saying Morelos is fully committed to Rangers’ charge to the title.

Speaking of, the forward admitted he’d be lying if he and the team weren’t thinking of beating Old Firm rivals Celtic to the crown this season.

Asked about Morelos by talkSPORT host Jim White, Roofe said: “He loves football, he really does love football.

“He’s full of beans at the training ground, giving it 100 per cent, he’s full of energy, he tries his best and he’s a fighter.

“These are the sort of players we need playing for Rangers in our team.

“Of course he’s committed to the cause otherwise he wouldn’t be playing. If he wasn’t [committed] I’m sure the gaffer wouldn’t have him, and also the players wouldn’t be having him either.

“None of us could single him out at all.

“With the gaffer, if you don’t give 100 per cent you’re not going to have a good time, it’s as simple as that.

“Every player has to give their all, even in training. You’ve got to show fight and determination.”

Rangers currently sit 11 points clear of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a flying start to the season, with Gerrard’s men still undefeated after 15 games.

And, asked if he and the team are aiming to end Celtic’s ten-in-a-row hopes, Roofe said: “I’d be lying if I said we don’t think about those sort of things, the reason we’re playing so hard and training so hard this season is because we want to win silverware.

“We want to win the league and we want to win the cups – it’s just a natural thing all players want to do.

“But it’s all about Rangers, no one else. If we just keep on doing what we’ve done so far, we’ve got a good chance.”

Rangers have also been firing on all cylinders in Europe this term, and sailed through to the knockout stages of the Europa League – also without losing a game – on Thursday night with a 3-2 win over Standard Liege.

But Roofe insists Gerrard’s men are not getting too carried away.

“Honestly, with that one we have to take it game by game,” he added. “But what we’ve shown so far is we are a good team, and I think other teams and players will start taking notice of that now.

“It’s a top dressing room, all the boys are on the same page on and off the pitch and the coaches and all the staff are top as well.

“We fight for each other on the pitch.”
