Speak Out: No reason to be offended by Chicago baseball team names

To Bill from Orland Park. I’m not sure why you are offended by the names of our two baseball teams in Chicago. Nor do I and probably thousands of baseball fans care. Speak Out is a great forum to voice your thoughts, however I believe your 31-word opinion would have been best kept under wraps. I believe you’re not a sports fan, especially when it comes to baseball.

Everyday a new player on professional sports team goes down with coronavirus. Every player on the team is exposed. Is making money for owners of teams or players that want their million dollar salary more important than jeopordizing your family and friends lives? Greed has taken over common sense.

The Confederate flag should be banned from being displayed on federal, state and local property. It is not the American flag and just like the government doesn’t allow the flying of other national flags on their property, the Confederate flag should not be flown, otherwise, we should also be flying the British, Mexican and Spanish flags, as these are all countries that we fought with and beat to create the United States of America.

When I was growing up in the schools, I learned about Christopher Columbus and the fact that he discovered America. I never heard anything about racism. As far as the Confederate flag, I didn’t hear anything about racism. I think this is all being blown out of proportion. I think if they’re going to take down a statue it needs to be done by the proper authorities and the way you do it is you start writing your congressperson or representative, you don’t take it into your own hands.

Since the schools are not going to be open in September, I decided I need my money back for real estate taxes for schools. If the teachers aren’t going to go to school then they should be laid off. They only need one teacher to teach eighth grade for the whole school system. They don’t need 20 or 30 teachers teaching one subject when they’re not seeing the students. Why should they sit around and do nothing and get paid for it.
