South Africa are struggling to keep their feet on the wicket against Australia at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Australia have put South Africa under immense pressure with a magnificent effort with their bowling. South African top-order had a dismal performance against the Australian pace attack. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller took the charge and had a wonderful partnership for the 5th wicket but Travis Head’s golden arm provided Australia another respite.

South African top-order lost the first four wickets inside just 12 overs. Temba Bavuma (0), Quinton De Kock (3), Rassie van der Dussen (6), and Aiden Markram (10) all departed early as Australian captain Pat Cummins carried on with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood for 13 overs. They both picked two wickets each in the opening spell. After this, Heinrich Klaasen (47) and David Miller (55) added 95 runs for the fifth wicket.

Just when the South Africa were looking set for a decent total, Travis Head rattled Klassen’s leg stump. Travis Head got a huge turn in one of his deliveries that beat Klaasen’s bat and went straight onto the leg stumps to provide Australia 5th wicket. Head waved off Klaasen who departed after playing a magnificent knock of 47 runs in 48 deliveries. His partnership with David Miller provided South Africa with a decent recovery.

Right in the next delivery, Travis Head got Marco Jansen out on a golden duck. Sensing a huge turn, Jansen wanted to play Head on the back foot but missed the line completely. He couldn’t control the sharp turn and the balls came crashing onto his pads to give Australia two wickets in two balls. Marco Jansen walked back on golden duck and with two back-to-back wickets, Head once again put South Africa on the back foot.

South Africa will need 240 to challenge Australians on this wicket at Eden Gardens, as it is helping the spinners a lot. South Africa have also got a decent bowling attack with Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Gerald Coetzee in pace bowling, and Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi in the spin bowling department.
