Mitchell Starc became the fastest bowler to take 60 wickets in the history of ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. The left-arm speedster achieved this feat in merely 27 matches during his impressive opening spell in the semi-final of the tournament against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.

Starc scalped two wickets in his first seven overs, first dismissing skipper Temba Bavuma before getting the better of vice-captain Aiden Markram.

Starc had taken 22 wickets in 2015 and 27 of them in the 2019 edition of the tournament. He has taken 11 scalps already this year and looks lethal with the five-time champions appearing set to make it to the final of the tournament.

Starc has not been at the top of his game in this World Cup. He was even rested from the previous match against Bangladesh but the pacer was edging to return back to the playing XI.

The bowler did a good job right from the start of this game, steaming in full throttle, bringing the ball in, and consistently targetting the pads of the right-handed batters.

Starc has excelled consistently with this approach for Australia and they will be glad that he has is recovering rhythm ahead of a possible faceoff in the summit clash against the in-form Indian team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.
