Willard Miller, the student who murdered his Spanish teacher over a bad grade, received a life sentence in July. According to USA Today, he will become eligible for parole after 35 years. The 17-year-old along with his accomplice in the crime, Jeremy Goodale, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder earlier in April. Goodale’s sentencing hearing recently concluded as prosecutors seek 25 years to life for the 18-year-old. Both boys were 16 when prosecutors charged them as adults in November 2021.
According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, Willard Miller is currently serving his sentence at the Iowa State Penitentiary. Earlier this year in July, Judge Shawn Showers sentenced Miller to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years. The 17-year-old reportedly pleaded guilty to first-degree murder along with his partner in crime Jeremy Goodale in April.
Both Miller and Goodale bludgeoned their Spanish teacher Nohema Graber with a baseball bat after she gave the former a bad grade. The duo committed the crime on November 2, 2021. That same day, Graber’s family reported her missing. Police found the mother-of-three’s body the following day hidden under a tarpaulin, wheelbarrow, and railway sleepers in a local park.
The USA Today reported that police arrested both teens after their classmates showed them incriminating Snapchat posts Goodale implicating both Miller and himself in the crime. One post stated, “Time to hide a body,” showing the picture of a jug of Clorox bleach. A second post was his selfie that said, “POV you’re my Spanish teacher and this is the last thing you see.”
Reportedly, Judge Showers said, “Your horrific actions led to the death of Nohema Graber, and her family will never be able to fill that void.” The judge further told the teen that he would have handed him life without parole if he wasn’t a juvenile.
