Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Veterans Day Message Sparks Backlash
Veterans Day #VeteransDay
Marjorie Taylor Greene received a mixed reaction on Saturday after sharing a post on X, formerly Twitter, to mark Veterans Day.
The event, held each November 11, honors and commemorates American military veterans on the anniversary of the end of World War I, which took place on November 11 1918. Taking to X, where she has over 2.8 million followers, Greene posted: “Happy Veterans Day! Today, we honor the men and women who’ve served and protected our nation. Your valor and dedication are the cornerstone of our liberty. Thank you for your service!”
A number of X users wrote that GOP Senator Tommy Tuberville is continuing to block nearly 400 senior military promotions, and has vowed to continue doing so until the Pentagon stops paying expenses for servicemembers who travel for an abortion. There was also concern about the impact a government shutdown would have on the military, with Congress having until November 17 to strike a deal for more funding to avoid millions of federal employees being furloughed, or required to work without pay.
The message received more than 1,800 likes and was shared over 290 times, and sparked both criticism and praise from other social-media users.
Referencing Donald Trump, whom Greene enthusiastically supports, Condé Nast legal affairs editor Luke Zaleski wrote: “On #VeteransDay it’s important to remember the former president is a traitor who fomented a domestic terror attack on the US Capitol in order to stop the certification of his legitimate loss and in effect overthrow the country and rule of law. And he was never brought to justice.”
Another commented on X: “But republicans voted to cut their medical benefits how exactly is that honoring them?”
One X user, claiming to be a retired U.S. defense contractor, wrote on X: “Hypocrisy at its zenith. Due to the incredibly broken GOP and the possibility of a government shutdown, the military doesn’t even know if they’ll be paid after next week!
“Due to Tommy Tuberville, countless military promotions cannot happen thereby weakening the armed forces,” the user added.
However, not all who responded on X were so negative, with one supportive user posting: “May God bless our military. Thank you Marjorie God bless you and be safe.”
A second user wrote on the platform: “God Bless our Veterans! Happy Veterans Day! Thank all of you for your service and sacrifice so that we can live FREE! God Bless America!”
A third poster commented on X: “They fought for our freedoms only to have them taken away by our current administration. We the people are p***** off.”
Newsweek has reached out to Rep. Greene for comment by telephone and voicemail message.

President Biden also posted a video tribute to mark Veterans Day on X, adding: “Today, we honor the story of our veterans – the story of our nation at its best.
“On Veterans Day, let’s recommit to fulfilling our one sacred obligation as a nation: to prepare those we send into harm’s way and care for them and their families when they come home,” the post added.
Trump, whom polling indicates is by some margin frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, also posted a tribute but chose to do so on his own Truth Social platform.
The former president wrote on the social-media site: “Our Veterans will never stop fighting for the America we cherish.
“The full measure of your sacrifice and your family’s dedication in support of your service may not be fully understood and appreciated, but it will never be forgotten,” Trump added.
