Bills Offense Had Players-Only Meeting After Loss to Bengals, Led by Latavius Murray

Supposed to be one of the most high-powered offenses in the NFL, it’s no secret that the Buffalo Bills have had a rough time over the last few weeks.

And coming off yet another disappointing performance last Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, the players on that side of the ball—led by veteran running back Latavius Murray—decided to talk it over in a meeting Thursday to try and set things right.

“Something I initiated, just wanted to bring the guys together and talk about some things and see how we as an offense can make a difference,” Murray said via Pro Football Talks’ Michael David Smith. “So we talked about a few things so hopefully it was received and hopefully it’s a step in the right direction.”

It wasn’t long ago that Buffalo was considered as one of the best teams in the AFC and a true Super Bowl contender. But ever since 48-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins back in Week 4, things just haven’t looked right.

The Bills haven’t had an impressive performance in over a month. They have losses to the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals while barely surviving against the lowly New York Giants and Tampa Bay Bucaneers.

The Giants’ game was particularly ugly as they only managed to score 14 points in a 14-9 victory and in all honestly should have loss.

And following Sunday’s 24-18 loss to the Bengals, Buffalo finds itself on the outside looking in at the AFC playoff picture at 5-4.

It’s concerning to Murray because he knows that elite squad is still lingering around the facility, the Bills just have to sculpt it back out.

“We’re about halfway through the year and it was on my mind, coming off a game — we’ve had a few games like that, but coming off a game where I just feel like, we can beat anybody. A lot of times, it’s getting redundant, it’s us beating ourselves,” Murray said. “So how can we avoid that? What can we do possibly different during the week, whatever. How can we avoid that? How can we find something that’s different amongst us so we get a different result. . . . It’s the halfway point almost, coming off a loss where we feel we hurt ourselves once again.”

Murray—while not having a great impact on the field—has quickly become a leader in the locker room. The former Pro Bowler has 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns this season.
