Carol Vorderman has said she was forced to “make light” of her health struggles after going through menopause.

The 62-year-old spoke about her health issues and her experiences on the Postcards from Midlife podcast with Trish and Lorraine.

She explained: “Women of my generation have always been told to slide away.

“Even when I was hosting Loose Women, which was 10 years ago, it was only acceptable to go, ‘Ooh, I’m having a crazy moment’, if it had to with menopause, or, ‘Ooh, I’m having a bit of a moment’, and make light of yourself when you’re going through this.”

The Countdown star went on to say that she’s glad times have changed and women are now speaking up in the workplace.

She continued: “It’s not always horrific for people, but you can have horrific days, and now thank god women are going, ‘Stuff that, this is what is happening, I need help in the workplace, I need to be able to hear from people who are doing this’.”

The television personality put down her experiences to patriarchy and people having an old-fashioned societal attitude.

Carol’s comments come after she announced she’s leaving her Saturday morning show on BBC Radio Wales.

The reasoning behind the Countdown legend’s exit is due to the broadcaster’s new social media guidelines.

She has fronted her weekend broadcast since 2019, but has now announced she had no choice but to leave the programme behind.

The Pride of Britain star shared a statement about her exit and expressed her sadness about her friends at BBC Radio Wales that she is leaving behind.

The BBC’s rules were updated following a furore over Gary Lineker’s political posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) earlier this year, which saw him temporarily suspended from Match of the Day.

The guidelines apply to presenters who have “a particular responsibility to respect the corporation’s impartiality, because of their profile on the BBC”.

In recent months, Carol has become well-known for voicing her strong political opinions on X.
