It’s True: Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer Coming in December

Grand Theft Auto #GrandTheftAuto

The wait has been long, but gamers will soon have their first official look at the next official Grand Theft Auto title.

Rockstar Games today confirmed it will release a trailer for a new Grand Theft Auto in “early December” in celebration of its 25th anniversary.

Rockstar Rounder Sam Houser made the announcement in a short post, thanking gamers for their support over the years. “In 1998, Rockstar Games was founded on the idea that video games could come to be as essential to culture as any other form of entertainment, and we hope that we have created games you love in our efforts to be part of that evolution,” he said.

Houser added: “We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.”

Interestingly, Houser refrained from calling the new entry Game Theft Auto VI. So it’s possible Rockstar may be considering a different name for the game.

The news also suggests the highly anticipated title could launch next year since Rockstar is finally ready to show off some game footage. This aligns with an earnings report from Rockstar’s owner, Take-Two Interactive, which projected it plans on raking in $8 billion in net bookings for fiscal 2025, which starts in April 2024.

The last games in the franchise, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, launched back in 2013. Since then, gamers have been asking Rockstar when a new title would launch. In February 2022, the studio finally confirmed a new entry in the GTA series was in the works, adding, “our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered.”

But later that year, footage from an early version of the game was leaked after the hacking group LAPSUS$ infiltrated Rockstar’s network. The footage revealed that the game appears to be set in the fictionalized world of Miami’s Vice City, with a focus on a male and female character duo. Next month’s trailer will no doubt reveal more, including a potential launch date.
