MOSC’s Sounds of the Season, ‘A Tuna Christmas’ on stage this weekend

The Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale’s Sounds of the Season is this Saturday at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center. Dos Amigos and the Rusty Bucket will be having live music this weekend as well. Plus, “A Tuna Christmas” will play at the Midland Community Theatre, and the Museum of the Southwest’s Christmas at the Mansion events begin this weekend with trains running in the train depot.
The annual Sounds of the Season will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the WNPAC. The concert will be operating at 40 percent patron capacity, which is lower than required by the state as an extra precaution, according to Executive Director Ethan Wills. This Friday, Giovannie and The Hired Guns will be performing at Dos Amigos. The rock-and-country-driven band performs high energy shows. The opener will be Dylan Wheeler. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and can be purchased at tickets.vendini.com/ticket-software.html.
The Chad Cooke Band will play Saturday at the Rusty Bucket BBQ and Tavern. The Chad Cooke Band is composed of four modern-day country crooners from Houston. Their song “Oil Man” was one of their first singles released in 2016. “A Tuna Christmas” has shows for the next two weekends. The play takes place in Tuna, Texas, where the citizens are preparing for the town’s annual Christmas Yard Display Contest that has been won 14 times by Vera Carp. A Christmas Phantom known for vandalizing the yard displays has all the contestants worried. The second play in the Tuna series the production is an affectionate commentary and withering satire of small town, Southern life and attitudes. ‘A Tuna Christmas’ is playing at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Dec. 10 and Dec. 12. The Museum of the Southwest will have the train depot open starting Saturday. The trains will be running every weekend in December. Saturday hours will be noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. Visitors can schedule appointments for their household online at https://museumsw.org/explore/events/christmas-at-the-mansion. The MSW also has their outdoor light show during the month of December. Visitors can drive by the Turner Mansion when the sun goes down and view the light display.
The Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center will have two cinemas under the stars on Dec. 10. “The Santa Clause” and “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will show back to back with “The Santa Clause” starting at 6:30 p.m. and the Grinch starting at 9 p.m. The night will also feature an ugly sweater contest prior to each show. Face masks are required, but costume masks that cover the entire face are not permitted. Tickets are $5 with University of Texas Permian Basin students and staff being free.
