Updates: Polls open for Election Day 2023 in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam

Election Day is today, Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Early voting took place from Oct. 28 to Nov. 5.

What’s on the ballot in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam?

While it’s not a Presidential or Congressional election this year, there are a number of local races going in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam. On the ballot this year are:

What are this year’s key races?

Among the area’s key races this year are mayoral races in Yonkers, New Rochelle and Mount Vernon. After having term limits extended, Mike Spano is seeking a fourth term as Yonkers mayor. In Mount Vernon, Shawyn Patterson-Howard is poised to become the first incumbent to win re-election in the city in a generation. And in New Rochelle, there will be a new mayor for the first time in 17 years as Yadira Ramos-Herbert faces Louis Trangucci, Noam Bramson stepped aside since being New Rochelle mayor since 2006.

The Westchester County Legislature is also up for vote with key races being chairman Vedat Gashi facing challenger Dan Branda. Another competitive race sees Joe Torres taking on incumbent Colin Smith.

In Rockland, seats in the County Legislature are up for grabs, as well as control of the county governments in Clarkstown and Suffern.

Also at stake in this year’s elections are four judgeships in New York’s State Supreme Court with four candidates vying for eight spots.
