The Weeknd has postponed the Australian and New Zealand leg of his upcoming After Hours Til Dawn tour.

The pop star, 33, released a statement on Friday announcing he would not be able to perform in Australia and NZ this year due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’.

‘We must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour. New dates will be announced next year, and current tickets will be valid for the new shows,’ he began.

‘Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can’t wait to be there with you.’

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, was scheduled to perform in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane across November and December.

The superstar has already achieved massive success on his latest world tour so far.

Rolling Stone reports he recently filled London’s stadium with 160,000 fans over two nights, which is a record attendance for the venue.

The four-time Grammy award winning artist previously revealed his stage name originated from him dropping out of school, taking his mattress, ‘leaving one weekend and never coming home.’

It is missing the ‘e’ to avoid copyright issues as there was already a Canadian band called The Weekend.
