Freeze warning, first snow showers possible on Halloween night. Check Cincinnati forecast

Halloween #Halloween

Wear extra layers if you’re trick-or-treating around Cincinnati this year because temperatures are expected to drop on Halloween.

According to a hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a freeze warning is in effect throughout the region from 10 a.m. Monday morning until 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 are expected.

Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

Below-average temperatures will persist throughout the week.

Another chance of rain and possible snow showers Tuesday into Tuesday night. Drier weather will return by midweek. Rain chances may return by next weekend.

When will Greater Cincinnati begin to see winter weather?

According to the National Weather Service, 32-degree temperatures have been recorded in Cincinnati as early as Sept. 28 and as late as Nov. 27. Records indicate that the first day that hits 32 degrees in Cincinnati and Covington is typically Oct. 25, based on the last 30 years of climatological data.

The earliest date of measurable snowfall was Oct. 19, 1989, when it snowed a whopping 5 inches. That date also holds Cincinnati’s record for the earliest date of 1 inch or more of snowfall.

Overnight lows may drop between 25 and 30 degrees Monday and Tuesday night. Lows in the mid-20s are also possible for the rest of the week.

Isolated to scattered rain and/or snow showers may occur in western locations on Tuesday.
