  • Chelsea’s Supporters’ Trust have demanded that the Premier League reverse their decision to schedule the club’s league clash with Wolves on Christmas Eve.

The Premier League have been finalising their schedule for the festive period, and have opted to put Chelsea’s trip to Molineux on Christmas Eve, making it the first top flight game to be held on this date in 28 years.

Chelsea fans have been left angry at the prospect of facing a lengthy journey to the Midlands just before Christmas, and have called for the Premier League to reconsider.

The Supporters’ Trust statement read: ‘It is totally unacceptable that Wolves v Chelsea has been scheduled for Christmas Eve.

‘Since rumours began to circulate on this issue, the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust has been clear that selecting this kick-off time will place another hurdle in the way of many matchgoing fans. Not only could this lead to staffing issues at Molineux, but holiday transport timetables will further inconvenience supporters.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust has issued a statement calling for their league game against Wolves to not be played on Christmas Eve

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently scheduled to travel to Molineux on Christmas Eve for the first top flight fixture on this date in 28 years

Fans believe it is ‘outrageous’ that the Premier League want Gary O’Neil’s Wolves to play Chelsea the day before Christmas

‘On Tuesday 24 October, we requested an urgent meeting with the relevant decision-makers within the Premier League. We expect that this meeting will be held very soon, alongside the Wolves 1877 Trust, and the Football Supporters’ Association.

‘The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust will formally request that the Premier League properly consults supporters on this issue and that they reverse this decision.

‘We will provide a further update to CST members in due course.’

The statement received plenty of support from fellow fans online, with many commenting on social media to show their opposition to the Premier League’s scheduling.

‘Don’t give them an inch in this matter. Playing on Christmas Eve is simply outrageous for so many people involved, not just fans,’ one fan wrote.

Another added: ‘Let’s get this moved back asap’.

‘Our team should refuse to play,’ another supporter stated, as they called for drastic action to get the fixture moved.

The full fixture list for the Christmas period was released by the Premier League on Thursday afternoon.

Wolves hosting Chelsea is the only Christmas Eve game, but games on Boxing Day will be spread across 10 hours, with Newcastle taking on Nottingham Forest in the 12.30pm kick-off, before Manchester United’s home clash with Aston Villa rounds off the day at 8pm.

Overall, there will be just two football-free days across a two-week period stretching from just before Christmas through until the New Year.
