Celtic fans display huge pro-Palestine display at Tynecastle during Premiership clash with Hearts

CELTIC fans held a huge pro-Palestine display in the away end at Tynecastle during their game against Hearts.

Hoops fans showed support for the Palestinian people as the conflict in Israel and Gaza rages on.

The away end was a sea of Palestine flags as Brendan Rodgers’ side emerged from the tunnel to face the Jambos.

Ultras group The Green Brigade sparked fury from club chiefs at the start of the crisis when they flew a banner saying ‘Free Palestine, Victory to the Resistance’ just hours after atrocities were committed by Hamas militants.

A club statement following the game at Parkhead against Kilmarnock read: “We condemn the display of such messages at Celtic Park.

“Celtic is a football club and not a political organisation.

“One of our core values from inception is to be open to all regardless of race, colour, politics or creed.

“That is why the Club has always made clear that political messages and banners are not welcome at Celtic Park, or any match involving Celtic.”

And the group, who have been BANNED from away games pending a review, also encouraged supporters to fly flags against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

Both Celts and Hearts players joined clubs across Scotland in wearing black armbands to show solidarity with those affected.

A joint statement by the SPFL and SWPL read: “Given the terrible events of the past two weeks in Israel and Palestine, our thoughts are with all those who continue to suffer from this enduring conflict.

“Scottish football is a positive and cohesive force for good in the communities that surround and sustain our clubs.

“We will therefore be supporting the British Red Cross, who have launched an emergency appeal to support the international response efforts aiding those in urgent need and will be promoting this appeal through social media this weekend.

“We will be suggesting to our clubs that they use black armbands this weekend, as a show of humanitarian support for those affected by the conflict.”
