Cher’s Trump Remark Riles Up MAGA
Cher #Cher
In 2016, pop icon Cher vowed to leave the United States if Donald Trump won the general election. Although the star decided to stay in California after the former president’s win, a second term for Trump just might push the singer over the edge.
The 77-year-old made a similar vow in an interview with The Guardian publishedon October 18.
“I almost got an ulcer the last time,” she told the newspaper. “If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave.”
According to polling analysis website FiveThirtyEight, Trump is the frontrunner in the race to become the next Republican presidential candidate. The 72-year-old business mogul is currently polling at 57 percent, well ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who sits in second place with 13.9 percent.

Newsweek reached out to Cher for comment via email.
Her pledge didn’t go down well with MAGA supporters on social media, with @RedState66 commenting on X, formerly Twitter: “I will help her move.”
“Then everybody vote for Trump by all means,” X user Ultra MAGA Joyce Day wrote.
“Really, who cares. She is irrelevant,” wrote @SFCA12345, who has Trump’s mugshot as their profile picture.
“Get the hell out. Nobody cares,” said Val, who describes herself as “Ultra MAGA” in her bio.
“She shouldn’t wait, she should go now,” commented Michael Hintze. “Great singer, but not a bright font of knowledge.”
Other users defended the Oscar winner, with @eruptingchick writing: “Cher will never be irrelevant. She’s a Best Actress award winner, a legendary pop singer, a celebrity with zero scandal over decades (no, tabloids don’t count), and still looks fucking amazing in her 70’s.”
“‘Cher is irrelevant’ belched by people who voted for a guy who peaked in the 80’s and excudes 80’s like cocaine fueled energy as he eats the breakfast buffet at his personal country club,” said @DeathMetalV.
“Cher has a message for the millions of Trump MAGAts,” wrote @Leftech, alongside a clip of the actress slapping Nicolas Cage and yelling “Snap out of it” in the 1987 movie Moonstruck.
“Y’all could never make me turn my back on Cher! If I could and had the money I’d leave also!” said @heyjaeee, while @rojo304 shared a side-by-side snap of Cher and Trump, asking followers: “Who else would rather have Cher than an orange cancer?”
At the time of writing, the latest stats from FiveThirtyEight show Trump leading over Biden by between 3 and 6 percent, depending on the poll.
Cher has long been an outspoken critic of Trump and conservative policies. In 2021, the “Goddess of Pop” slammed the GOP on Twitter, accusing the party of being a “whites-only club.”
She slammed Trump for appearing on the White House balcony without a mask in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic after previously calling him a “liar” and “antisemitic” in a 2019 tweet.
In 2016, she compared the real-estate magnate to Hitler and said that she’d rather “chew glass” than support him.
