Brian Daboll explodes when Giants screw up final play of half vs. Bills … and get nothing

Daboll #Daboll

Giants head coach Brian Daboll — an explosive personality on the sideline — ripped off his headset, screamed at his assistant coaches and lectured backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor as the Giants jogged off the field at the end of the first half.

The Giants shockingly had a 6-0 lead over the heavily favored Buffalo Bills, so what had Daboll pissed off?

A major screwup, that’s what.

The Giant had a first-and-goal, thanks to a pass interference penalty in the end zone, with 14 seconds remaining and no timeouts. The situation dictated a pass play into the end zone for a TD or an incompletion that would stop the clock and allow the Giants to run another play or attempt a chip-shot field-goal attempt.

Any play stopped in the field of play would allow time to expire.

Nevertheless, the Giants handed the ball to running back Saquon Barkley, who was stuffed, and the Giants couldn’t get lined up quickly enough to spike the ball as time expired.

Daboll ran around the sidelines, looking for someone to scold and screaming at anyone who would listen. As players left the field, Daboll walked alongside Taylor and scolded him — as if Taylor had changed the play.

Daboll, stopped by NBC as he came off the field, said he didn’t want to talk about it. When the reporter followed up with another question, Daboll apologized and said his “head wasn’t in it.”

NBC’s in-game analyst Cris Collinsworth said he believed Taylor changed the play.

With the inexcusable mistake, the Giants still haven’t scored a first-half offensive touchdown this season.
