Jada Pinkett Smith’s revelation that she’s been separated from husband Will Smith for the past 7 years sparked a heated conversation in The View, with Ana Navarro claiming that the Gotham alum has been strategically dropping bombshells about her marriage to profit off the scandals.
“I think she’s having a relationship with her bank account because every time she needs to increase the ratings of the Red Table [Talk], every time she needs to sell books, she drops these bombshells…I find it unseemly,” shared Navarro during the Oct. 11 episode.
Joy Behar interjected, noting, “I find it smart!”
Navarro continued sharing her opinion, saying, “Be careful of anybody who pretends to have a perfect marriage.”
Sunny Hostin disagreed with Navarro, saying, “But it’s a memoir, though. It’s in her memoir that they’ve been separated for all of that time. I mean, I think that’s a very brave thing to do, very courageous thing to do.”
She added, “I think it has less to do with money. She has plenty.”
Sara Haines also shared her thoughts on the matter, opining that Pinkett Smith “demeaned” the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum by claiming that she thought Smith standing up to her at the 2022 Oscars by slapping Chris Rock onstage was scripted.
“If he defends her honor by doing that and she says in this interview, ‘I thought it was a sketch’ she hangs him out to dry. Who’s winning here?” she questioned.
Navarro interjected, “And her face did not look like she thought it was a comedy sketch. If she thought it was a comedy sketch, she had a role in it. She was playing into it.”
In a preview of her Today show interview with Hoda Kotb, which will air in full on Friday, Oct. 13, Pinkett Smith mentioned that she and the actor have been living “completely separate lives” since 2016.
She confirmed that while it wasn’t a divorce on paper, they were apart. As for why they haven’t filed for divorce yet, the actress noted that she “made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through… whatever. I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
The chat was in promotion of her tell-all memoir Worthy, which comes out on Oct. 17.
