For the fourth time in a row, the San Francisco 49ers defeated their NFC West division rivals, the Los Angeles Rams.
The Niners’ latest victory was on Sunday, a 23-20 thriller capped off by kicker Robbie Gould, who converted a 42-yard field goal as time expired.Gould’s kick looked good from much farther than 42 yards, but he was aided by an offsides penalty assessed against Rams star cornerback Jalen Ramsey on the previous play.
As the game-winner sailed through the uprights, San Francisco wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk — out of action while on the reserve/COVID-19 list — brought out his broomstick on Instagram Live.
The 49ers’ second consecutive sweep of the Rams is all the more impressive given that Aiyuk, tight end George Kittle and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo were unavailable (the latter two are injured).
Backup quarterback Nick Mullens and backup tight end Jordan Reed had forgettable performances, but Aiyuk’s receiving friend/fellow YAC Bro Deebo Samuel turned in a career day: 11 catches for 133 yards.
Presumably, Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald will remember Samuel’s name now — a subject he struggled with earlier in the season when San Francisco beat Los Angeles 24-16. And perhaps their earlier tiff compelled Aiyuk to stick up for his teammate/show off his broom.
