Zac Gallen, Diamondbacks advance to NLCS
NLCS #NLCS
Former North Carolina Tar Heels standout Zac Gallen will pitch in the NLCS here in 2023. On Wednesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks took Game 3 of the NLDS series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, sweeping the NL West champions and advancing to the NLCS.
The NLCS appearance will be the fourth in franchise history and the first since the 2007 season.
After taking both games in Los Angeles, including a Gallen win in Game 2, the Diamondbacks completed the sweep by hitting four home runs in the third inning. That’s the first time a team has achieved that feat in postseason history.
Arizona is now 5-0 in the playoffs, beating Milwaukee 2-0 and now the Dodgers 3-0. For a team that needed the last weekend to make the playoffs, the Diamondbacks are now red hot and a big reason why is starting pitching.
Gallen is 2-0 in the postseason with a 3.18 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched. This comes after he finished the regular season 17-9 with a 3.47 ERA. With Gallena and Merrill Kelly leading the way, the Diamondbacks have a really good 1-2 punch in the rotation.
Arizona now awaits the winner of the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves series.
