Braves vs. Phillies live updates, highlights: Zack Wheeler trying to push Philadelphia to 2-0 NLDS lead

Wheeler #Wheeler

It’s Game 2 for the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies in their National League Division Series matchup at Truist Park on Monday night. Game 2 is a battle of aces. Zack Wheeler (13-6, 3.61 ERA), who was superb in the Wild Card Series opener against the Miami Marlins, is on the mound for Philadelphia. The Braves counter with Max Fried (8-1, 2.55 ERA), who had not pitched since Sept. 21 because of a blister.

The Phillies got a first-inning run off Fried as Trea Turner doubled and scored, and they made the lefty throw 30 pitches in the first inning. Philadelphia’s lead grew in the third inning when J.T. Realmuto launched a two-run homer to make it 3-0.

The Phillies took Game 1 thanks to Bryce Harper’s heroics on offense, and also manager Rob Thomson’s deft bullpen management. Seven pitchers combined to shut the Braves out at home for the first time since Aug. 28, 2021.
