Sean Payton gets trolled by Jets after Broncos’ 31-21 loss

Sean Payton didn’t hold back when it came to what he thought about the job Nathaniel Hackett did during his time as coach of the Denver Broncos, calling it the “worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL.” The comments drew the ire of Aaron Rodgers, who said Payton should keep the now-Jets offensive coordinator’s name out of his mouth.
Hackett’s time in Denver wasn’t great. His tenure lasted just 15 games and had a 4-11 record before he was fired.
There was already some bad blood boiling before the regular season began and the Jets probably had the Week 5 matchup circled on their calendars. At the end of the day, though, it was Hackett and the Jets who came away with the 31-21 win over Denver.

And even though Payton walked back his comments, the Jets made sure Hackett knew how much he was appreciated. He was shown on the sidelines getting hugged by the players while Payton and Jets coach Robert Saleh met at midfield and shook hands. And after the game, Hackett was presented with the game ball.
Sunday wasn’t the best game for the offense, but the Jets thought it just made sense for Hackett to get it.
The Jets made sure to have fun with the win, too. Shortly after the game ended the team’s X account, formerly known as Twitter, posted a picture of Kevin James — who played Payton in the movie “Home Team” — with the caption, “when you lose to the offseason champs.”
Sauce Gardner also took to social media to add his own little jab at the Broncos and quarterback Russell Wilson.
“Jets Country…….LETS RIDE,” he posted.
As for Payton, he didn’t want to talk about what he previously said about Hackett and just chalked up the loss to the Jets playing better than Denver.
“Listen, they played better than us,” he told reporters. “I credit Robert Saleh and that staff. They won the game and that’s how I look at it.”
The Broncos fell to 1-4 as their struggles continued. The Jets moved to 2-3 and will try to keep the momentum going next weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.
