Analysts See Iran Role in Attack on Israel as it Seeks Saudi Ties

Iran is “clearly also behind” Hamas’s attack on Israel, according to Dennis Ross of the Washington-based Institute for Near East Policy. “We are seeing that Iran was determined to try to prevent the U.S.-Saudi-Israeli deal,” Ross said, citing remarks in recent days from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei about the effort of the U.S. to help broker normalization in diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia — a regional rival of Iran — and Israel.
