Boras typically brings his clients to free agency, but in many situations, he has negotiated extensions.

Last offseason, Boras worked out a deal for outfielder Brandon Nimmo to remain a Met.

New Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Monday in his introductory press conference that he expects Alonso to be his first baseman in 2024.

Alonso will likely make more than $20 million in arbitration next year before his contract expires.

This season, the slugging first baseman hit .217/.318/.504 for an .821 OPS with 46 home runs and 118 RBI.

“Pete (Alonso) is a great player,” Stearns said Monday. “He is also good in the clubhouse and he is also homegrown. All of that matters.

“I know during the summer there was there was some trade speculation, and look, I’ll just say, I expect Pete to be the opening day first baseman next year. Pete’s an important member of this team. He’s an important member of this organization. And I think we’re really fortunate to have him.”
