Kylian Mbappe stormed straight down the tunnel at St James’ Park as Paris Saint-Germain were hammered by Newcastle.
The Parisians and all their stars were in town for the Magpies’ first home Champions League game in near enough two decades. They produced a performance fitting the occasion as they scored four against the French champions, who were outclassed in the north east.
Mbappe formed a frontline that cost almost £300m but they failed to fire against the Premier League outfit, who took the lead early on and never looked back. The Frenchman, whose commitment was strongly questioned in the summer, walked straight off the pitch within seconds of the final whistle.
Lucas Hernandez scored a consolation for the Ligue 1 outfit, who have won one and lost one of their two games thus far. Luis Enrique only took charge at the Parc des Princes in the summer and looked stunned as Newcastle showed their class with Mbappe unable to prevent the defeat.
The World Cup Golden Boot winner has long had his attitude questioned by observers and his swift exit will do little to change the narrative around his commitment. Throughout the summer he and PSG were involved in a standoff with the player opting against signing a new deal.
It meant he would’ve been free to leave for free next summer with Real Madrid expected to be his next destination. Eventually a resolution was found but the player has still been part of the worst PSG start to a season for a decade, winning just three of their seven league games so far.

PSG’s next Champions League assignment is back-to-back games against AC Milan as they look to make strides in Europe. Bar their final appearance in 2020, which they lost to Bayern Munich, the French side have continued to flop on the biggest stage.
Even with Mbappe leading their line, the French side have come up short time and time again. Last term they lost out against Bayern, who won comprehensively across two legs in the last 16 whilst the year prior to that Real had completed a major turnaround to down the Parisians.
