How to Watch the MLB Playoffs today: October 4 – Blue Jays v. Twins, D-Backs v. Brewers and more | Channel, Stream, Preview
Twins #Twins
Game 2 of the four Wild Card Series takes place across the country on Wednesday, with some teams looking to punch their tickets to the next round, while others hope to push their series the distance.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays (Rangers lead, 1-0)
The Rangers took the air out of Tropicana Field with a string of strong pitching and excellent defense. Jordan Montgomery tossed seven scoreless innings, striking out five in the series opener. Key hits from Corey Seager led the way to Texas grabbing a 4-0 lead.
While they did not leave as many runners in scoring position, the Rays only had six hits in the loss, with starter Tyler Glasnow allowing three runs, even though he picked up eight strikeouts.
Texas is one win away from winning their first series since appearing in the World Series 12 years ago.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Minnesota Twins (Twins lead, 1-0)
Two home runs from Royce Lewis were all the Twins needed to earn their postseason victory since 2004, as Minnesota’s defense kept the Blue Jays from putting too many numbers on the board, winning by a final score of 3-1.
Toronto stranded nine runners on base, going 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position. As deep as the Blue Jays’ lineup is on paper, their inefficiency in clutch moments will be their downfall if they cannot figure it out on Wednesday.
A win for Minnesota on Tuesday will mark the team’s first series win since 2002.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers (Diamondbacks lead, 1-0)
It was an excruciatingly tough game for the Brewers on Tuesday. The team jumped out to a 3-0 lead, thanks to a two-run home run from Tyrone Taylor. Even when the Diamondbacks answered with homers from Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte, Milwaukee had a chance to regain the lead. Gabriel Moreno’s dinger in the fourth put Arizona ahead, and a few insurance runs later helped send the D-backs to a 6-3 win.
The Brewers left 11 runners on base in the loss, with the team even out-hitting Arizona, 12-9 in Game 1.
It was the first postseason win for the Diamondbacks since their victory over the Colorado Rockies in the Wild Card Game in 2017.
Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies (Phillies lead, 1-0)
Thanks to a strong start from Zack Wheeler, the Phillies were in control in Game 1. Clutch hits from Christian Pache and Nick Castellanos helped propel Philadelphia to a 4-1 win, marking the sixth-straight win in a postseason opener for the franchise.
While the Marlins’ defense made some key plays in order to not let the game get out of hand, they need to have better at-bats in order to generate more runs, and avoid getting swept in their first playoff appearance in three years.
