Eagles’ star WR gets drug tested after two-TD performance

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown was among players selected for a random drug test upon arriving at his locker after Sunday’s 34-31 overtime win against the Washington Commanders.

Brown had nine receptions for 175 yards and his first two touchdowns of the season. He torched the defensive back on a 28-yard touchdown with 1:43 remaining to give Philadelphia a 31-24 lead. It was his second consecutive 100-plus yard performance.

This isn’t the first time Brown has been selected for a random testing after a big performance. He was subjected to one last season after a three touchdown game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8. Brown then posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, mentioning NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell:

“I would have a drug test this morning huh lol Rogerrrrr this is not random @NFL”

Safety Reed Blankenship was also confirmed as one of the Eagles players selected for random testing Sunday.

According to the National Football League Player’s Association policy on performance-enhancing substances, each week during the preseason and regular season, 10 players on every club will be tested:

By means of a computer program the Independent Administrator will randomly select the Players to be tested from the Club’s active roster, practice squad list, and reserve list who are not otherwise subject to ongoing reasonable cause testing for performance enhancing substances. The number of Players selected for testing on a particular day will be determined in advance on a uniform basis. Players will be required to provide a specimen whenever they are selected, without regard to the number of times they have previously been tested consistent with the limits set forth in the Policy.
