Marcus Rashford left Manchester United’s staff in despair during their meek 1-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils were condemned to their fourth defeat in just seven Premier League games thanks to Joachim Andersen’s first-half goal. Rashford, who like many of his team-mates has performed below-pair since the campaign began, was wasteful in possession and staff at Old Trafford were spotted looking exasperated at his use of the ball on multiple occasions, report the Manchester Evening News.

Having been rested for Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Palace in the Carabao Cup third round, Rashford returned to Erik ten Hag’s starting XI but failed to impress and was eventually replaced by midfielder Christian Eriksen after 77 minutes. Ten Hag’s substitutions didn’t improve things much, allowing Roy Hodgson’s side to leave Old Trafford with three points.

It wasn’t just Rashford who was receiving criticism, however, his team-mates were also slated by supporters inside a miserable Old Trafford – barring the away end. New signing Sofyan Amrabat was panned by former Blackburn and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton, who told BBC Radio 5 Live: “He’s not looked comfortable in that left-back position today, like a fish out of water.”

The Red Devils were undone by Andersen’s 25th-minute scorcher after an Eberechi Eze free-kick found itself going all the way through United’s back line. Palace centre-back Andersen took a swing and lashed the ball past Andre Onana, who had no chance.

Rasmus Hojlund had a shot cleared off the line prior to Andersen’s opener and after Sam Johnstone saved shots from Bruno Fernandes and striker Hojlund, the closest Ten Hag’s men came to equalising was when Alejandro Garnacho fired an effort towards goal in added time. It was blocked by Palace captain Marc Guehi and soon enough the full-time whistle sounded, prompting boos around Old Trafford.

Ten Hag looked exasperated as he shook Hodgson’s hand, reflecting on his fourth loss in six games in all competitions. The Red Devils host Galatasaray on Tuesday in the Champions League before welcoming Brentford to Old Trafford next Saturday.
