Albon: I still have three races to prove myself

Despite enduring a poor season, Alex Albon still feels he can keep his seat for next year if he impresses in the final three races.
With the exception of finishing on the podium for the first time, it has been a hugely disappointing campaign for Albon, who has rarely been anywhere near team-mate Max Verstappen and has often been beaten by those in the midfield.
This had led to talk that Red Bull will give his seat to one of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez, both of whom are available for next season.
However, he says there’s still time for him to prove he’s good enough.
“At the end of the day, there are still three races to show what I’ve got,” he said.
I want to have a good few races ahead of me. The focus is these three races, there’s not really any other thought to it. Most people have a plan B, but my plan is plan A, that’s staying in the team.
“I’m focused on that, that’s my goal. As I said, I’m focusing on these races.”

Many feel that Perez deserves the seat more, and the Mexican says that if he doesn’t get it, he’ll be taking a year out of racing altogether.
“There’s only one option, I’ve been here so many years, I want to keep going, I think I’m at the peak of my career,” he told reporters ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
“But I also want to keep going with a reason, with a plan, with a good project. So I think if there’s not a good project that keeps my motivation to give 100%, I’d rather not take it.
“I think if I don’t have [a] Formula 1 [seat] next year I don’t see myself doing anything else. I will take a year to consider what I want to do, [whether] I really miss it.
“Most other drivers, they retire and after six months they go mad and they want to do whatever is available. So I have to see. I’ve never experienced that in my whole life.
