The Mandalorian Makes Major Baby Yoda Reveal

Grogu #Grogu

The Child, known to most as Baby Yoda, has been a mysterious figure for much of The Mandalorian’s run, but Chapter 13 gave him a huge bit of backstory.Major spoilers for The Mandalorian, Chapter 13 follow. I have spoken. Disney insists on calling him The Child, the Internet’s called him Baby Yoda for a year, but we now know that Din Djarin’s foundling is in fact called Grogu.

We also learned a little about where Grogu (it’s going to take a while to get used to that) was before his fall into Empire hands. After communing telepathically with the (at least) fifty year-old baby, Ahsoka Tano – who makes her first live-action appearance in Chapter 13 – explains that the child was raised, and was in training at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. He was trained by “many masters”.

As the Clone Wars began, and the Jedi Order fell, Grogu was taken from the temple and hidden – after which his memory becomes dark. In the time since, he’s been lonely and afriad, and hidden his Force abilities to survive. The specifics of the time between Grogu’s flight from Coruscant, and being found by Mando aren’t made clear.Ahsoka also reconfirms that, whatever Grogu’s species is, it’s as rare as we’ve been led to expect – she only knows of Yoda and Grogu.

It was a lore-rich episode this week, with Ahsoka also mentioning Grand Admiral Thrawn, potentially teasing three other major characters that could make their way into the show.
