Zac Taylor wondered aloud on the way to his regularly scheduled news conference what the over/under for questions about Joe Burrow’s calf injury would be Thursday afternoon.

The line ended up being set at 10.5. Cash those “over” tickets. The final tally was 13.

When the Cincinnati Bengals are confronted by their $275 million quarterback not practicing after reinjuring his calf Sunday, a Monday night pressure cooker at 0-2 against the Los Angeles Rams and the long-term concern of Burrow’s ability to return to full strength in the coming months, questions are in higher quantity than answers around Paycor Stadium.

Monday remains up in the air.

“We’ll see,” Burrow said.

“We’ll see,” Taylor said.

For now, seeing and hoping appear the clearest path for Burrow to potentially return.

“Soreness is an issue right now,” Taylor said. “So giving him some time is best.”

Ah, yes, time. Time to hope the calf feels better between now and Monday. Time to hope a week without much, if any, practice doesn’t take away from rhythm and production. Time to hope he doesn’t further tweak his calf while avoiding decapitation by Aaron Donald.
