The TNF broadcast tried being way too immersive with a graphic Brock Purdy surgery animation
Purdy #Purdy
In the offseason, Brock Purdy underwent UCL surgery for an injury he suffered during last year’s NFC title game. It became a big enough point of contention to where many once wondered if Purdy would even be healthy for the regular season.
And for some reason, as the San Francisco 49ers took on the New York Giants Thursday, someone with the Thursday Night Football broadcast thought we should see a very graphic animation of the surgery Purdy had. It wasn’t a live gruesome injury by any means, but it was still pretty unsettling to watch and weirdly quite detailed.
Put another way: Someone really overthought this behind the scenes. Al Michaels didn’t sound like the biggest fan either.

Look, I’m all for highlighting how tremendous and wonderful modern medicine can be. If Purdy had been an NFL player in years past, he might not have recovered the same way. But I don’t remotely agree with this way-too-immersive graphic being something the audience needed to see.
