Get well Chubb, Donovan: Darcy cartoon
Chubb #Chubb
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Rooting for those wearing the white Cleveland Browns helmets and the white hats of caregivers for Browns play-by-play announcer Jimmy Donovan, and now also, Nick Chubb, out for the season after injuring his knee while charging for the goal line in the Browns self-inflicted loss to the Steelers on Monday Night Football, 26-22.
Chubb was missed on the field and Donovan in the radio booth and his sports anchor chair on WKYC channel 3. The veteran voice of the Browns has regrettably taken medical leave in his renewed fight against leukemia.
The Browns throwback alternative white helmets looked sharp. But Harrison Bryant’s rout running on one play and Jedrick Wills blocking on another, looked and were shoddy, causing two turnovers in the first and fourth quarters giving the Steelers 14 points and the win. Wills once again played like the most overrated and overpaid left tackle when he missed his man who hit Deshaun Watson from behind knocking the ball into Steelers hands and the end zone.
Steeler’s offense could do little against the Browns defense Super Bowl caliber play. They didn’t need to with the Browns offense giving them points and the heartbreaking loss of Chubb who had been recklessly underused by head coach Kevin Stefanski’s dubious play calling when the Browns got a first half turnover in the Steeler’s red zone and squandered it.
The 14 points the Browns gave the Steelers on turnovers and the Browns missed field goal, adds up to at least 17 points the Browns should have won by.
With Chubb now out, it’s too bad the Browns can’t get back Greg Pruitt, whose number 34 Jerome Ford doesn’t deserve to be wearing. They can though get back Kareem Hunt, who has been missed since the Browns didn’t resign him and is now sorely needed.
If not Hunt, the Browns need to get either Cam Akers from the Rams, or Jonathan Taylor from the Colts if they still want to get their hopes up of contending for the Super Bowl which coach Jim Schwartz showed again he has the defense ready for.
More importantly, may Nick Chubb and Jimmy Donovan get well and get back !
