Manchester United vs Brighton LIVE highlights and reaction as Hannibal scores but United hammered
Hannibal #Hannibal
Manchester United were defeated at Old Trafford in the Premier League for the first time in over a year against Brighton.
Prior to the game, Brighton had defeated United 7-1 on aggregate across the last four meetings between the two sides, and they had completed a league double over the club for the first time last season in the most successful campaign in their history.
It was always bound to be a tricky fixture and although Erik ten Hag’s side were much the better side in the opening 15 minutes, squandering a few chances, it was Brighton who opened the scoring in the 19th minute.
Danny Welbeck scored against his former club and Rasmus Hojlund thought he’d equalised before half-time, only for for it to be disallowed. There were no changes at the break and the away side picked up where they left off.
Brighton scored again shortly after the interval and they made it 3-0 with 15 minutes remaining.
Hannibal Mejbri, who came on from the bench, also scored a consolation goal.
Recap the events from Old Trafford.
17:03KEY EVENT
United player ratings as Lindelof and McTominay poor
Andre Onana
Well beaten by Danny Welbeck for the first goal and Pascal Gross for the second. Could arguably have done better for the third goal. 5
Diogo Dalot
Vindicated his switch to right-back and shadowed Kaoru Mitoma diligently. Crossed for Marcus Rashford to have a chance. 6
Victor Lindelof
His sloppiest half for a while, Lindelof seemed thrown by Brighton’s fluid movement. Can’t be assured of keeping his place. 4

Hannibal and Martial
It looks like that pair are coming on.

McTominay poor
Fail to see what McTominay has brought to United today with the ball. Ten Hag is in the dugout, doubtless contemplating changes. They are needed.
57′ – MUN 0-2 BHATyrone Marshall
Brighton reacted quicker
There’s an element of fortune about that goal given Lamptey wasn’t looking for Gross with the pass, but it says it all that the Brighton man reacted quicker than every defender. It was casual all round, even Dalot and McTominay were too passive against Mitoma and Lamptey. Brighton are finding it easy at Old Trafford.
55′ – MUN 0-2 BHASteven Railston
That was too simple
United looked far too passive for that Brighton move and they duly found the back of the net. Dalot should have put pressure on Mitoma and got tight, but he peddled back instead.

Gross makes it 2-0 and United have now got it all to do in this game – really poor.

Gross has a shot from the edge of the box but it’s tam and easily gathered.
47′ – MUN 0-1 BHASteven Railston

HALF-TIME!
That’s the whistle for the break here.
Welbeck’s goal is the difference.
45′ – MUN 1-1 BHASteven Railston
Three minutes added
Almost half-time.
43′ – MUN 1-1 BHASamuel Luckhurst
Best and worst of Rashford
That was the best and worst of Rashford: he got the ball across but had needlessly overdone it in the build-up. As fine as the margins were there, Rashford could have got the ball across a lot earlier.
