CHICAGO — The big moments always seem to find Royce Lewis.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning, Lewis worked a 3-1 count against Chicago White Sox starter Jesse Scholtens. He then took a fastball and blasted it to deep left field for his fourth grand slam of the season to give the Twins a 4-0 lead at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The grand slam gave Lewis his 14th homer of the season and his 16th of his career. The rookie is the first player in MLB history to hit five grand slams in his first 16 home runs. His four grand slams this season are also a Twins franchise record.

Lewis has been red-hot at the plate recently, entering the day with a .323 average and .943 OPS in his last 45 games. The rookie carried the Twins to a victory Thursday night following a massive home run and now has hit a long ball in three of his past five games.

His grand slam on Friday was his second of the month. Lewis also hit a grand slam on Sept. 4 against the Cleveland Guardians en route to a six-RBI night. All four grand slams have come since Aug. 27, or an 18-game span. That is the shortest span in which a player has hit four grand slams in MLB history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
