Al Michaels called the Eagles’ home field ‘Veterans Stadium’ even though it doesn’t exist anymore

Eagles #Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles currently play football at Lincoln Financial Field, which is a pretty solid stadium by all accounts. Older sports fans may remember when Veterans Stadium used to dominate the Philly sports complex before it was demolished in 2004 to make way for the Linc.

Unfortunately for broadcaster Al Michaels, he got the pair of stadiums mixed up during Thursday Night Football.

Coming out of the half between the Eagles and Minnesota Vikings, Michaels set the stage for the next two quarters of football with a bit of window dressing. When coming back from a break, Michaels mistakingly said “Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia” when describing the scene, even though the stadium hasn’t existed for nearly two decades!

A definite gaffe for sure, but the mistake goes to show just how long Michaels has been on air. It’s been a hot minute since I thought about the Vet! A relic of the times for sure, but a beloved one in Philadelphia sports history all the same.

NFL fans, however, absolutely noticed Michaels’ mistake and commented on it on Twitter.
