Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered Announced During Nintendo Direct

During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games were revealed in the form of Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered.

Tomb Raider I, II, and III are launching on February 14th, complete with reworked visuals and performance.

If you prefer the original polygonal look of the games, though, you can switch between the two styles at any time during gameplay.

Despite the fact that this collection was announced during the Nintendo Direct presentation, it’s actually coming to pretty much everything rather than just the Switch.

Besides the visual update, the gameplay looks like it’s largely unchanged, with developer Aspyr aiming for a faithful recreation of the originals’ gameplay rather than a complete rework.

After the original Tomb Raider series ended with 2003’s Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, developer Crystal Dynamics took stewardship of the franchise.

Three Tomb Raider games – Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld – followed, before the series was once again rebooted for 2013’s Tomb Raider, which took things in a darker and grittier direction.

The latest mainline Tomb Raider game is Shadow of the Tomb Raider, although another game is in development, with Amazon Games signed up to publish. Crystal Dynamics will once again be developing.

It’s not clear whether or not this is the same Tomb Raider game for which script leaks surfaced in August last year, but it’s likely they’re related, if not the same project.

We also don’t know if Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Tomb Raider game will continue the story of the newer Lara Croft or if it’ll mark a new reboot (or, indeed, a return to the original Lara from these remasters).

Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered launches on February 14th for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
