Daniel Khalife was declared missing at 7.50am on Wednesday – around 20 minutes after a food lorry left HMP Wandsworth prison at 7.32am.
The Met was notified of his disappearance at 8.15am and took “immediate action” to track down the food delivery van.
At some point between 7.32am and 8.37am (much likely closer to the latter), Khalife jumped out from underneath the van and was spotted by an eyewitness near Wandsworth Roundabout.
At 8.37am, officers stopped the van in Upper Richmond Road, near the junction with Carlton Drive.
They spoke to the driver and carried out a search, which revealed strapping on the underside of the van.
It’s believed Khalife was hiding underneath the van and used this strapping as part of his escape.
On Thursday and into Friday, police concentrated their search on Richmond Park, where Khalife is believed to have had links.
Police were on scene, as well as two helicopters, searched into the night. The search then continued in daylight.
A reward of £20,000 was put on offer for any information that helped lead to the arrest of Khalife.
Around 9am on Saturday the Met confirmed that they were “focusing their efforts” in and around Chiswick in west London.
They said they had received “intelligence-led activity”, some confirmed sightings of Khalife overnight, and received calls from members of the public.
Police vans and cars were present in Church Street, Chiswick Lane South and Pumping Station Road.
Just before 11am police confirmed that they had arrested Khalife after a four-day search.
He remains in police custody.
