WWE superstar GUNTHER is so close to making history as the longest running Intercontinental Champion ever, and his wife Jinny has played a huge role in that behind the scenes.
If the Ring General defeats underdog Chad Gable tonight on Monday Night Raw, he will break Honky Tonk Man’s record, and the Austrian star admitted his wife – who announced her retirement from wrestling earlier this year after a spell on WWE brand NXT UK – has been a rock throughout his main roster run.
He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s fantastic, especially with the lifestyle we have. We’re gone half the week and only home the other week, there’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t get done in the home.
‘To have someone to be in charge of all of that, keeping the house in control, if that makes sense? That’s fantastic. She really does everything she can so I can fully focus on my career and make the best out of that.
‘To have someone on your side that really understands what you’re doing and why you do it, that is really a gamechanger.’
Of course, Jinny isn’t just a support at home, as her great mind for the wrestling business means she’s invaluable to GUNTHER when it comes to his career itself, and he was a massive support to her during her injury and subsequent retirement.

‘Maybe one of the things that I appreciate the most about her, she will give me her honest opinion about whatever it is, it doesn’t matter if it’s negative or positive,’ he smiled.
‘She’ll call me out if I’m wrong, she’ll encourage me if I’m right and I think that’s something that is very important.’
Wrestling can be a fast-paced and sometimes unforgiving environment, and having someone to help you stay ‘grounded’ makes all the difference.

‘Especially in our sport, things happen so fast and there’s a lot noise about things all the time,’ he added. ‘You can lose yourself in the bubble a little bit, but to have someone on your side that keeps you grounded, that’s very important.’
His Imperium teammates have helped him too, helping inspire his fitness overall, while he also knows to trust his own instincts and talents.

‘Obviously it’s good to get confirmation from wherever, in terms of what you’re doing. Those are the indicators if you’re on the right path or not, but at the end of the day you have to believe in yourself,’ he pointed out.
‘How do you expect everybody else to believe in you if not even yourself do it? So that’s where it starts.’
There have been some ‘tricky situations’ with some ‘people with a bigger track record’ having their own opinions on GUNTHER and his presentation, but he learned to stick to his guns.

‘Those are the tricky situations sometimes too, but it’s all part of it,’ he admitted.
‘At the end, if you have a support system around you that really has your back, it’s a gamechanger and I’m in a really blessed situation when it comes to that.’
WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on TNT Sports 1.
