However, with United’s late transfer window strategy hindered by Harry Maguire’s collapsed £30million move to West Ham, they have been unable to make an offer due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.
In an effort to bypass their FFP woes, United made a loan bid for the World Cup star.
However, the Moroccan international has suffered a setback in his plans to secure a move to Old Trafford as Fiorentina rejected the approach.
Instead, according to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Nottingham Forest have seen a £17million offer accepted for Amrabat.
But a deal is far from complete as the player is said to have turned them down.
It leaves Amrabat in an uncertain position ahead of Friday’s deadline.
Man Utd will struggle to afford a permanent move for Amrabat unless they can sell players in the next 48 hours.

United will be replacing him with Fenerbahce’s Altay Bayindir, who is set to join in a £4.25m deal.
Meanwhile, injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have led to the Red Devils also hunting for a new left-sided defender.
While a number of targets have been considered, Marc Cucurella looks set to be the star heading to Old Trafford to solve the defensive crisis.
