Nando’s pays fitting tribute to Derek Watts

Chicken fast food chain Nando’s has paid a fitting tribute to veteran TV host and journalist Derek Watts who died on Tuesday, 22 August after a battle with cancer. 

He was 74.

In June this year, Carte Blanche announced that Watts would be stepping away from the Sunday night show to focus on his health.

He was diagnosed with skin cancer last year, which reportedly spread to his lungs.

Earlier this year, he was rushed to ICU after a suspected stroke, as reported by The South African website.

“Looks scary, but collapsed with suspected stroke in Hoedspruit 14 days ago and dispatched to super-pro Milpark Hospital ICU,” Watts told fans on Twitter at the time, posting a picture from his hospital bed.

Watts is survived by his wife Belinda and children Tyrone and Kirstin.

On Tuesday evening Nando’s posted on social media “To the only other person who grilled better than us” in reference to Watts’s investigative role on the Carte Blanche programme.
